You can use your Gift Balance by logging into your account.

Remember, the Gift Balance button disappears after 24 hours. Log into your account during this time and click on "Load Gift Balance" on the homepage.

Use it whenever you want. Unlike other apps, there's no time limit. Sometimes gift balances accumulate, and you can even send free mail with them.
