Facility Mailing and Service Information

TDCJ uses a statewide digital-mail system for general personal correspondence. Letters are sent to the Digital Mail Processing Center, scanned, and delivered electronically to the inmate's secure tablet. Inmates without tablets receive printed copies.

The sender should use the inmate's commitment full name, TDCJ number and current unit of assignment. TDCJ states that mail missing the inmate's full name or TDCJ number will be returned.

Legal, media and special correspondence are handled separately and should be sent directly to the inmate's assigned unit.

Personal photos are accepted through the TDCJ Digital Mail Processing Center and are scanned for electronic delivery.

The current statewide Digital Mail FAQ does not publish one numeric photo limit for every TDCJ unit. Photos and all other incoming correspondence remain subject to TDCJ inspection and content restrictions.

Books, magazines, packages and other subscriptions are not sent to the Digital Mail Processing Center. They must be sent to the inmate's current unit of assignment under TDCJ publication/package rules.

Effective April 1, 2026, TDCJ states that books mailed to inmates must be new and softback. Hardback books and used books are not accepted under the revised statewide policy.

Confirm the inmate's unit and current unit-delivery requirements before sending publications or packages.
